Who are we?
We are Me & You, a company founded in Košice, Slovakia. We named ourselves this because every change or action starts with us. Our company began with a vision for a better future. We saw that we were disposing of our plastics without considering the consequences.
When we saw single-use plastic items in our favorite places in our cities, rivers, lakes, forests, mountains, and oceans, we took action. We investigated the situation and found that even the WHO states that plastics are harmful not only to the environment but also to us. You might ask why? We asked this question too. The WHO responded with their research, which tested water in plastic bottles. In 2018, they found that 90% of water stored in plastics contained microplastics, which are harmful to us. They tested 259 different water bottles from various suppliers, of which only 17 were plastic-free. We wondered how we could improve our environment as human beings and still live a healthy life.
What is the problem?
In early 1862, humanity invented plastic, which was cheap, incredibly durable, and highly adaptable to various uses. This is the result of us achieving so much. In the early 1900s, plastic production increased to 10-20 million tons annually, compared to 350-370 million tons today. Many countries are trying to manage this and reuse plastic waste, but currently, only 30% is reused; the rest is all around us.
What do we strive for?
Our mission is to reduce our own waste that ends up in our nature, oceans, forests, rivers, and cities. We strive to encourage our clients to start implementing reusable items into their lives for a future where there is a place for us and our children. We recommend our customers use reusable products instead of plastics because plastics can remain in the beverages we drink and the food we eat. We see our future where humanity can live in harmony with nature, where we maintain it and do not destroy it. We can start today, because change begins with us, with me and with you. What can we do?
What we can achieve largely depends on us. We can change our habits and stop using single-use plastics. If we do this, we will start thinking about our surroundings, and an item that may be more expensive than plastic will serve us longer, and we won't get rid of it as quickly. We must start replacing and refusing to buy plastic bottles, plastic bags for bread and food. This is where we come in, to choose something for everyone, of any age, for all who want to act. If you can't reuse it, refuse it. #Can't reuse it, refuse it. We believe in second chances, and our world has given us one. It's time to seize the opportunity and buy things that are good for us and for the Earth. We offer options and inspire everyone willing to take steps for a better future.
